I can see it now. "It's you? What are you doing here?" "I'm trying to fix your stupid screw-up, now stand back while I save the day." "Fat chance!" or something like that.

How the (bleep) is Daffyd pronounced? I am very confused - is it true it's pronounced 'Dar-vid'?
Jim | 20th May 2008 13:50
More like Dar-Fid.
B.T. Isaac | 20th May 2008 20:53
And I allways thoughy it's Daffy-d (as in Daffy Duck)
Jim | 21st May 2008 16:10
Er... no.
Insert Name Here | 21st May 2008 23:42
But WHY is it pronounced like that? (I know of a Dafydd whose name is pronounced 'davith'; I do not understand that, either.)
Jim | 22nd May 2008 07:09
'Davith' would be the Welsh pronunciation. In Welsh, the double 'd' is roughly equivalent to the English 'th' sound. Our Daffyd is not Welsh. His name is Dutch, therefore it is pronounced in the Dutch manner. We seem to have this question fairly often - perhaps we should put it on the about page.
Jake R | 22nd May 2008 12:15
Being Dutch, I should add to that last statement that we don't actually add an 'r' in front of a double 'f' here. The 'hard F' in 'Dar-Fid' fits though.
Jim | 22nd May 2008 15:37
Yes, I only put the 'r' in to emphasise the sound. I suppose perhaps 'Daa-Fid' (to rhyme with the word for the sound which sheep make) would be better?
Catcha | 22nd May 2008 22:00
Aww, now I can't make my joke about Daffyd being Daft anymore.
Really it was a Very Bad Joke in the first place though, so it's not at all a loss.
Dutch, though... Hmm. The Welsh Dafydd guessed German when I asked him. ;)
Jake R | 27th May 2008 00:35
... for a Dutchman, I think 'David' would actually be the correct spelling, if you say 'Daa-Fid' out loud in English. But if you pronounce 'David' in English, you get 'Day-vid'. Aaaah I'm confused 0_o
